I didn’t think I could make it. I was convinced I couldn’t. I told Sal to go ahead, keep going, and leave me there on the asphalted road almost to the top. My brain would not acquiesce the tranquility of my surroundings silencing the fears that my heart would give up; that I would faint as I tried to catch my breath. In my mind I pacified my looming disappointment–“I still had a good view.” But in reality, it was less than the best view I could have enjoyed.
Sal didn’t let me nor leave me. He said it was just a little bit more, that I could do it. Holding on to him I took each heavy step, gasping for precious air, I kept going. I knew I was weighing him down as he continued to counter gravity’s pull with me, but I dared not let go. We moved slowly. Finally, in what seemed like an eternity, we made it to the top!
Our life’s journey as we follow Jesus could seem like this experience, too. Storms, gusts, and obstacles distract, discourage, and stall us. But God beckons us, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
We can hold on to Him. Nothing is too heavy for Him. He defies gravity. He is in control and promised He would never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Best of all He promised He will complete the good work He began in us (Philippians 1:6). So let’s hang on to Him and press on, my friends. God has reserved the best view for us yet!
Have a blessed day,
Cecille ❤️
