I focused intently at the computer screen, adjusted my glasses, took them off, and wiped the lenses clean. After stroking my hand across my right eye, I replaced my glasses back on and gasped. It was still there! Even then, I could not shake the foggy film off, nor the fact I was having a hard time reading the words glaring directly in front of me.
A visit to a doctor confirmed my suspicion. The early cataract that started developing two years ago had taken a turn for the worse.
According to the Mayo Clinic cataracts cloud the normally clear lens in our eyes making it difficult to read, drive, or even distinctly see facial expressions on a friend’s face. Glasses and a brighter source of light eases the symptoms temporarily, but surgical removal and replacement of the diseased lens is the ultimate solution.
Our vision not only gets blurry or blocked by cataracts, glaucoma, and other diseases of the eyes. Physically, yes, but spiritually we can also get blinded. Pride, unconfessed sins, an unrepentant heart, grumbling, and unbelief render us sightless to the truths and beauty of God’s Words.
The good news is: our God is Yahweh Rapha–The Lord Who Heals You. He is our ultimate Healer. The One who cuts through the layers of gunk and darkness in our souls that block our vision of God’s revelations.
As I pray for His healing and look forward to Him restoring my vision, my appeal is that He also continues as Psalm 119:18 says, to “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.”
May it be our constant prayer.
Be blessed!
